ADDRESSING GLOBAL CHALLENGES THROUGH GLOBAL COLLABORATION
Since January 2017, the Transatlantic Cluster for Lightweighting (TraCLight) supports the international expansion and networking of German and North American companies and research centers. The goal is to bring together technical know-how for the development of truly unique and innovative lightweighting products through collaborative R&D projects between Germany and North America.
Focus is on three technological areas: Additive Manufacturing, Joining Techniques and Multi-Material-Design.
Moreover, TraClight provides members and partners from Germany, Canada and the US with bilateral market access and intelligence. The transatlantic cluster platform deepens collaboration through a series of conferences, workshops and mutual industry visits.
In the research sector the cluster offers access to the world‘s largest lightweighting institutes such as the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT), the Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research (WatCAR), the Québec Metallurgy Centre (CMQ), the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) and LIFT-Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow.
„Lightweighting generates new innovative products with enhanced performance and offers enormous economic opportunities. Canada is very pleased to partner with the best of Germany’s business and research talent in TraCLight, a platform for cooperation between two nations sharing a common vision.” François Cordeau, Vice President, Transportation and Manufacturing, National Research Council of Canada
